2nd African Conference on Key Populations in the HIV Epidemic
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - December 16 - 18, 2015
The conference will be multi-disciplinary and contributions are welcome from researchers, scholars, practitioners, programmers, policy-makers, and community-based actors with a wide range of backgrounds (e.g. from local, national and international agencies and institutions, civil society groups and organisations, and professional and academic disciplines related to public health, medicine, the social sciences and the humanities).
Three types of presentations/conference events are possible:
- Oral presentations
- Roundtable discussions
- Workshops engaging with conference topics
Abstracts for oral presentations
We are hereby inviting abstracts for oral presentations. Please note that abstracts must be submitted by 4 October 2015.
ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
- Abstracts must be in English and should be submitted online (please follow the link below)
- The word limit for abstracts is 300 words
- Please state clearly which of the conference themes your paper addresses (see belwo for list of themes).
- Please prepare your abstract carefully taking care with grammar, spelling and accuracy as it will be published in the conference booklet
- List all authors as they wish their names to be listed
- All correspondence will be with the submitting author only, so please ensure that the contact details for the submitting author include an up to date and working email address.
ABSTRACT THEMES
In preparing your proposal, please relate it to one of the following conference themes:
1. Key insights from epidemiological and social science research: What is the state of the HIV epidemic and related issues among key populations?
2. Key advances in policy, advocacy, prevention and service delivery: What are the lessons learnt from across Africa?
3. Key partnerships in key population work: What are the range of experiences, successes and challenges in the collaboration between researchers, policymakers, health personnel, and community actors in Africa?
4. Key sustainability issues in responding to HIV and AIDS: What are the issues that need to be addressed to build a sustainable response to HIV in key populations?
SUBMITTING YOUR ABSTRACT

- Peer review: Abstracts will be peer reviewed, and successful presenters will be notified before October 15, 2015
- A limited number of scholarships: A small amount of money is available to support conference participants who are not in a position to cover costs in connection with travel, subsistence, accommodation and/or the conference fee. For participants who are submitting an abstract, the scholarship application should be submitted together with the abstract. (Please note: Since the availability of funds for scholarships is limited, applicants are strongly encouraged to seek funding from other sources.)
Roundtable discussions and workshops
If you would like to arrange a roundtable discussion or a workshop during the conference, please write directly to the chair of the conference organising committee (click here for contact options). Please include the following information:
- Proposed title, topic or theme
- Roundtables convener(s), including name(s) and institutional affiliations
- Conference theme
- Brief statement (400 words maximum) of key issues the roundtable will address
- Indicative list of speakers, including their names and institutional affiliations (please note speakers will be expected to register for the conference and pay for their own travel and accommodation expenses)
